This utility is accessible
in one of two ways. You can either choose
it from Start menu, Accessories or if you
right click on a drive and choose
Properties, you will find a new button
towards the bottom that allows you to
open the Disk Cleanup tool.
There
are two parts to the tool, both of which
are offered to you by either Welcome
to Windows
or the Maintenance Wizard. The first scans and finds
temporary files that could be removed. If
you want them removed, you just check the
tick box and click on OK. There is a
button to View Files if you want to see
exactly what you'd be deleting.
The
More Options tab simply gives you buttons
that open the appropriate tabs from the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel, so you can
remove third-party programs that are
installed or components of Windows 98
that you don't use. If you haven't done
so already, there is also a link to the Driver
Converter
to change your drive to FAT32 to gain more space. The
Settings tab simply allows you to tick a
box if you want the tools run
automatically if the drive runs low on
space. The settings, like the execution
of the tools, only work on one drive at a
time - if you want to perform the clean
up on all drives, you have to use the
tools on each one manually.
